Purpose: Plans and coordinates all building level maintenance, custodial, operations, and supervision of other custodians; supervises and coordinates activities of other custodial workers engaged in cleaning and maintaining assigned equipment and facilities.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience preferred in maintenance operations.
  • Must have a valid Kansas driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of computers.
  • Knowledge of safety standards, law codes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to building maintenance.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Position requires 24 hour on call status.
  • Support district goals and objectives.
  • Meet District grooming, professional and interpersonal standards.

Supervisor: Executive Director of Operations

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a system to prioritize maintenance projects, utilize staff, and account for time and materials in job completion to ensure an effective and efficient work environment.
  • Assist in monitoring web based building controls.
  • Manage and schedule vehicle and equipment inspections and maintenance.
  • Ensure all maintenance staff follow safety procedures including wearing seat belts while driving district vehicles.
  • Recommend repair service to be contracted for the purpose of maintaining equipment properly.
  • Log monthly water well meter readings. (seasonally)
  • Ensure proper documentation and safeguards for all materials and equipment issued and used for the purpose of accountability within the Maintenance Department.
  • Develop and implement systems for dealing efficiently and effectively with emergency situations to ensure that all safety measures are taken.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of equipment for the purpose of accountability of the district’s assets.
  • Prepare accident reports and submit to the Executive Director of Operations to ensure that all incidents are handled in a timely manner.
  • Be familiar with all safety standards, laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures for maintenance work to ensure compliance with state and local regulations.
  • Assist the Executive Director of Operations regarding communication with law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical and emergency management personnel for the purpose of compliance with local regulations. Report any emergencies immediately!
  • Take Simplex calls during off hours and report incidents to the Executive Director of Operations each morning.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding student and staff information in order to remain in compliance with legal requirements and to maintain a professional work environment.
  • Make recommendations to the Executive Director of Operations for the disposal of surplus property.
  • Assist in snow removal.
  • Perform building maintenance after hours if needed.
  • Advise Executive Director of Operations if overtime is needed by staff.
  • Refer vendor or contractor questions to the Executive Director of Operations.
  • Keep the maintenance facility orderly.
  • Participate in in-service training and/or professional development as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Manage job requirements with physical mobility to move from place to place (walking, standing, stooping, pushing, pulling, kneeling, crawling, turning, reaching, climbing, balancing, lift up to 60 pounds on a daily basis), and use large, heavy equipment.
  • Must work in and around dust, fumes and odors.
  • Must work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.
  • Must work indoors and outdoors year-round in a variety of temperatures.

Terms of Employment: Twelve-month at-will position. 40 hour work week or as established by the Board. Schedules or shifts may be altered depending upon the critical nature or emergency circumstances of the job. Work hours will be determined as required by conditions. Vacation and sick day allowances included in District Personnel Policy.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy as stated in the Classified Handbook.
